Garden Hedge
What plants should I use to grow a garden hedge?
If you're not sure what to plant to form a garden hedge, below is a list of plant species suitable for an evergreen garden hedge. This will help you choose what type of plant is best for you.
We have also three questions that will help you decide what type of garden hedge is best.
Firstly, you need to decide
- How much do you want to spend?
Quicker growing plants are cheaper. Leylandii is the cheapest and quickest plant to form a garden hedge. Laurel hedging is the next quickest and cheapest for hedging. Other plant species tend to be more expensive as they are slower growing.
- What size plants you want to start your garden hedge?
Leylandii, Laurel and Photinia Red Robin are available in large sizes to start with but other garden hedge plants are either more expensive or difficult to find in larger sizes.
- How quick you want your garden hedge to grow?
Leylandii is the quickest to form a garden hedge especially from small plants. Laurel and Escallonia are also quick. Other species tend to be slower growing so take longer to from a garden hedge but if you're willing to wait, there are some plants that will create wonderful garden hedges.
